8:19PM - Personal current events

Spent the past few days obsessing over free print-and-assemble papercraft. Downloaded a collection of it, neatly organized into topical folders. They span three languages because I Googled keywords for what I wanted in Japanese and German as well as English. Used a combination of directories and archives to dig through dead websites for them. Then I found out the printer was out of magenta ink, so everything comes out in shades of green. So I made some frogs. LEMONADE, BABY. I'M MAKING LEMONADE.

Had lunch at the park, facing the water. The past few days have been hot and still, but today the wind was cold, and so strong that my hood wouldn't stay up. Packages of food wouldn't stay on the picnic table, had to be held down. Afterward, I walked away to an empty place to set down my cup for the crows to drink. The exact spot of grass I chose had a coin in it, which I would never have seen if I hadn't bent down right above it. Instant karma: twenty-five cents. It's from this year, with Arizona on the back. I like Arizona; the soil there is a nice color.

Watched Wall-E, a family occasion. New favorite movie. That is exactly what my dreamscapes usually look and feel like: vast, eerie places suffused with tragic humor and a sense of irony that doesn't recognize itself.

11:12PM - half suck, half wtf, and reeking of rubbing alcohol...

Just a PSA to anyone shopping for cosmetics:

NEVER EVER EVER use make up testers DIRECTLY on yourself!!! I mean, seriously, who the hell is going to want to touch that lip gloss after you smeared it all over your mouth. Do you not see the wide array of DISPOSABLE makeup applicators sitting right next to our testers? For our lip gloss collection, we have either cotton swabs or our nicer doe-foot applicators. Choose one. Use it. Throw it away when you're done. Simple, no?

And for the love of sanitation, do not give me a dirty look, a snarky "thanks", or mutter "oh well I didn't see them" (YES YOU DID, they are RIGHT NEXT TO THE GLOSS TESTERS.) I have to take time out of serving other customers to sterilize every single makeup tester on the makeup bar because I have no idea what ELSE you used on yourself. Not to mention, sometimes I have to throw away a perfectly good tester, because it is something that I cannot clean properly. (I.E. Mascara, you disgusting wench.) We are not your personal makeup collection.

Thanks,
Your lovely (and rage-ful) beauty dept. lead

11:12PM - AC 2009 Advanced Notice: OMNI UNAVAILIBLE!

From the cheif roach himself: http://www.anthrocon.org/node/3033

There are some important changes that our attendees should be aware of when making plans for 2009.
  • Anthrocon 2009 will be held from July 2 through July 5, 2009.
  • The Omni William Penn is not available next year. We are arranging for rooms at both the Doubletree and the Courtyard by Marriott (altough we were given only a small block at the Courtyard).
  • All hotel reservations will require a one-night deposit at the time the reservation is made. That deposit is not refundable if the reservation is canceled.
  • Anthrocon's major functions will move into Hall B, where we should have enough space for years to come.
  • Registration for Anthrocon 2009 will begin after Labor Day after we have recovered from 2008.

Note to self: Westin is still in, Omni is out, Doubletree is in as backup, Courtyard by Marriott is last resort.

7:58PM - Memento mori

“I don’t know, I just feel like I ought to be doing something more important with my life,” said the mayfly to the other mayfly.

People sometimes make the mistake of thinking that the memento mori, the reminder of mortality, means to linger on fear and morbidity. The actual principle of the reminder is that we have a deadline, and we need to schedule our projects for it. Part of the difficulty is that the exact date of the deadline is not divulged, and what happens to us afterward is uncertain. Nevertheless, leaving a legacy-- preserving information and resources for the benefit of others-- is of value above almost everything else. (That priority is up there with love and enlightenment.) That will not happen if you only perform menial routines day in and day out, since a legacy is made by extraordinary action. We're animals of medium-length lives, so a legacy is only possible if we dedicate ourselves to it and work in concert with others.

People have always had the conceit that the world may end within their lifetimes. It's likely that they're sensing their own individual ending. (If death is an ending. “End, beginning, same thing.” Who knows?) A world-ending is an unhelpful fantasy, like morbidity: it often dissuades people from thinking that they need to leave a legacy, since attempting for such would be irrational if there was going to be no time left at all. Unless if that very same threat inspires people to do something to keep the world from ending-- environmentalism and all that-- and that's one of the best legacies to aim for.

10:51PM - Safe alternative cleaning of coloured and dark items

I've read the memories and haven't found any suitable answers for my questions.

Alright, so I've recently gotten into using hydrogen peroxide on whites and lightly coloured clothes that need to be disinfected and/or bleached, but my problem is that the majority of my clothes are either black or coloured, and I'm not sure if hydrogen peroxide is safe for use on them. Is it safe to use it on coloured clothes, and if so, how much? if not, what are the alternatives?

Also, is it alright to use just baking soda and vinegar in place of laundry soap, or does it have to be combined with something else?  lately I've been really sensitive to our detergent and I'm slowly phasing it out. Also, when is the best time to add them, because some times my darker clothes come out with white spots on them.

9:11PM - AC and other things...

Thank you for an awsome con:

Not to mention the countless others and people that were there. Love you all. You guys made it great! You know who you are!<3

Things I did:

Eat, Sleep, Drank, Bartended, Walked a ton, Starbucked, Sleep some more. READ A FUCKING TON, Angels and Demons! , DANCED :3

I gotta admit. AC for me was...well... slightly life changing actually. A ton of things happened. And honestly weather I like to admit it or not, I have changed a bit because of it.

Has the change left me vaulnerable? Yes.
Could i get hurt even more so now? Of course.
But will I be strong? YOU BETTER FUCKING BELIEVE IT! :D

But life is funny like that. Everything happens for a reason. "No coincidence"

I do blame kalt for a lot of things this past trip. Especially this lil thing here...

This is what I get when I go out to get cigs and breakfast at 4:00 in the morning.

We finished up breakfast around 6ish and waited for the cab. Said screw it cuz it didn't come till 7:30.

Started walking back from the outskirts of the city, south side passed the bridges back to the inner city of Pittsburgh. Took us an hour and a half to walk from the ghetto-ish, pass tons of store, over the yellow bridge, and up this bitch ass mountain side of stairs, down a few dead ends, through a christian univeristy, down some more blocked roads due to construction, through some hotel parking lots. And then finally back to the Westin all sweaty, nasty and exhausted at 8:00pm Monday morning.

Was it worth it? Hellz yah!!!  XD

But yah, all in all. I think i made a few more new friends. Got to know a few more people deeper then I thought I knew. And well other things I'd rather not say here. But not everything/everyone is perfect, right?

What an interesting con, i'll say. But as I get back to regular, normal, boring life...

Work had me in a strangle hold for "End of the Period". I hate my company and this recession.
[info]lighthawkdragon  came up to visit last night and today and we all just got done watching Hancock and played some Super Smash Brothers

And been playing a lot of WOW lately. Just trying to Level a Horde B.Elf Priest. Which I just hit 50. Which is kool. I honestly wanna hurry it up already :/

I've also started writing a little bit in my own personal journal that I've had since '05. Its crazy reading the past. Not gonna lie. It's messed up.

I am grateful though. For all the people I know and even more grateful for the ones I'm close to.

But yah, all in all. I'm not tired or anything right now. So i'm just gonna putz  around....

10:45PM

So were getting ready to close, that's when our janitors do their closing routines of cleaning up the place, blah blah. Now about the same time every night, the woman janitor cleans the bathrooms. It's bad enough she has to clean the bathroom where people leave over flowing toilets and nasty bits for her to clean up but this lady comes up to the register in a huff and demands to speak to the manager. Some of you might find the customer right, but I dunno I love our cleaning lady so this annoyed me.

Huh? )

7:46PM - keeping produce fresh

Has anyone tried those Debbie Meyer 'Green Bags'? I saw them in a health food store today (and there's an infomercial for them on TV), but I'm wary of this 'Oya' mineral that they use to absorb the ehtylene gas. Any input?

P.S. Here's the product's website: www.greenbags.com

8:56PM - 2nd post in one day omg

I remembered another old suck.. I seem to attract the crazy ones!

I can't really hide where I worked in this case, otherwise it won't make sense... I hope that isn't breaking some kind of rule. I used to work for Disney World at Cinderella's Royal Table, the restaurant in the castle. I was a hostess there (one of eight of them in a shift) and at the time this story takes place, the one and only person who got to assign tables in the restaurant, in other words, pick your table and decide if we can take a walk-in. (READ: The person you want on your GOOD side!)

Background on this place: We were open from the time the park opened (and sometimes a little earlier) till 10:30 for breakfast, then 11-3 for lunch, then 4- an hour before park closing for dinner. For breakfast and lunch, we had a Princess dining experience. This means the Princesses would walk around signing autographs, taking pictures, and hugging excited children. For dinner we had an interactive character show- no autographs, but you had entertainment while you ate. Because of the nature of our experience, plus the fact that we were IN THE CASTLE, we would book up early. And by early I mean SIX MONTHS ahead of time. Seriously, people would call to the day, six months before they wanted to eat there. There were always some people who couldn't be bothered to make reservations, of course. Sometimes they took it well, other times they went nuts. Well, there was this one guy...

TLDR: Angry man demands table at busiest restaurant at WDW, harasses me for a while, manager gives in, I am sad :(

10:23PM - Any pics of Danny Dingo at AC?

Yeah, yeah I know. Everyone's doing it, so why not me huh? :0P

Seeing that AC was indeed my first con, I'm just trying to track down some pictures/video of me in fursuit. I have found quite a few pics of my suit and I'm still on the lookout. He looks kinda like this in case any of you were wondering:

Anyways, if anyone has any photos/video of Danny at AC, please e-mail them to me at pollick529(at)yahoo(dot)ca. Please replace "at" and "dot" with their respective symbols. Thanks!

10:39PM - Coney Island Part I

When I was young we went to Coney Island. They had fire works on certain nights. We'd go for hot dogs and a ride on the bumper cars. Over the years Coney Island fell into disrepair. It was terribly seedy and I didn't know what we'd find. It was vibrant, lively and rather nice.

9:37PM - Uses for honeycomb

I have a piece of honeycomb, and want to use it more in recipes but finding it hard to find any. The words in search come up with candy and different honey recipes but not what I want. I am looking specifically for ideas using the honey comb. I have chewed a little, tastes great but not a fan of the waxy texture in teeth, and used the honey. I have one recipe from the seller(to use on salmon), but otherwise no clue what I can do with it.

Help please!

Oh, and I want non bread ideas please (wheat sensitive).

10:25PM - handpainting old tiles

I have a box of plain white ceramic tiles that I took from my grandparents' house when they were selling it and cleaning it out (I assume from some old home improvement project).

They're just the plain standard kind of tile.

We are building a house, and I was thinking of painting something (patterns, stenciled designs, whatever) on some of these tiles, and using them as accent tiles in my kitchen backsplash.

My concern: what kind of paint would be good to use on something that will go in my kitchen backsplash? What will be durable (or is there a glaze or something I could put over it to keep it from just chipping away over the years?), and should I be concerned about chemicals, etc, in the paint, since it will be over/behind my stove and kitchen counters? I know there are a lot of aerosol type sealants out there, but I'm assuming those are pretty nasty and chemically.

So, any thoughts or recommendations? I'd appreciate anything you can give me!

(just to be clear, I intend to paint the tiles before putting them up on the wall, so I won't get anything all over the countertops or whatever, I'm more concerned about how it will hold up in the years to come. thanks!)
